9 a.m. regular maintenance was started

9:20 a.m. the website began to experience intermittent connection problems

10 a.m. it became clear there was a complication during the maintenance work that resulted in a server panic

12 p.m. technicians began work to correct the issue that caused the kernel panic

9 p.m. the website remains offline with a lengthy file system consistency check is being performed.

5 a.m. a temporary version of Paterson Times has been deployed as the original website remains offline. This will allow our reporters to submit news for public dissemination. However, recently posted news stories will not be available for now until the original website is restored.

6 a.m. technicians continue to work to repair files that were corrupted during the botched maintenance at the data center.

4 p.m.  plans are being crafted to invest in hardware to accommodate future growth while minimizing downtime.

Unexpected website downtime

Our website was down for about three hours today. We apologize for the inconvenience. During that time, our tech from Williamsville, NY was installing new memory into the system, which resulted in an unexpected system error.

The downtime began at 3:34 a.m. and lasted until 8 a.m. We're all back online now 8 a.m. June 9, 2015.

Our series of articles on Gaeta Recycling from the past year won second-place in the Best Local News category in the 2015 Excellence in Journalism Awards from the New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists (NJ-SPJ).

Our reporters use a lot of databases to cross check information or even spot an abnormality in a set of data that results in a great news story. One set of databases that we use on a regular basis are our salary databases of city, county, and school employees. We're making those databases public:

Access to the Paterson Times website was patchy for the past two hours because our techies were upgrading the platforms Open Graph code. Sorry about that. We're happy to announce the upgrade has been completed successfully.
